Turning to dust

Kean and I will be leaving shortly. We are waiting for the van right now. Then we'll load it with my stuff, go get Kean's stuff, go get last minute fruits and vegetables, and then we're off! And I'll be coming home to lots of work after Labor Day, weeeee!

My first radio appearance

I was asked to channel Audrey Hepburn and other famous movie stars for last night's episode of the college radio show Silver Screen Talk. You can listen to the entire episode online. I am on during the last fifteen minutes. Thank you, Robert and Dayna!

Evolution of plans

Burning Man plans are finally coming together. Up until recently there had been four sources of anxiety for me regarding this year's Burning Man:

- Which camp? The camp we really wanted to camp with wasn't very communicative for a while.
- Which vehicle? Like last year, I was trying to find a bus or a van via Craigslist or by leaving notes on vehicles I saw around town.
- Early arrival passes? The event starts on Monday at midnight. I like to get there early, on Saturday or Sunday, but you need to have an early arrival pass issued by your camp. Since we didn't have a camp, we didn't have early arrival passes.
- Bike trailer and dog crate? Last year, Kean and I had seen a guy on a bicycle who was pulling a bike trailer with a dog crate on it. In the dog crate was a girl curled up in a ball. Kean and I wanted to have something like that for ourselves.

As of this week, all four things are mostly taken care of. We have finally had communication with and gotten confirmation from Playfully Yours that we are part of their camp and that we are on their early arrivals list. Our early arrivals passes should be mailed to us soon.

Playfully Yours is a bondage camp we had visited last year. They have a BDSM dungeon with lots of toys. This year the camp will be right on the Esplanade. I can't seem to get away from the Esplanade or Center Camp as I have yet to camp elsewhere. I like it because that way friends can easily find me.

I found a burgundy Toyota van that its owner is willing to rent to me for Burning Man. It has been to the playa before. It's smaller than the vans I have had in the past, but it will keep me from sleeping in a tent. I was also offered to take Betty the bus again from last year, but I decided to find a vehicle that gets better gas mileage.

Lastly, Kean found a little wagon at Home Depot this week, which we will combine with a dog crate to make the animal trailer. I get to be an animal! We will take turns but most likely it will be more comfortable for me to be the animal because I am smaller.

Once again, the anxiety is mostly gone now and has been replaced by excitement!

Parallel universes

One morning in March of 2004 I was having brunch with a boy I had been seeing for two weeks. He had spent the previous night at my house. I liked him a lot. During brunch I kept my hand on his thigh.

One night in March of 2004 I went to a party with the boy I liked very much. At that party I ran into a new co-worker of mine. She was holding hands with a boy. "He's really cute too," I thought, "lucky her."

One morning in August of 2009 I was having brunch with the cute boy I had seen at that party, holding my co-worker's hand. We hadn't seen each other in a while, and I kept my hand on his thigh during brunch.

Two different boys, two different years, a different me, yet everything is connected.

In 2004, with my hand on his thigh, I felt like I was taking something from him.

In 2009, I felt like my hand on his thigh was giving him something.
